13 Low-Carb Buns That Will Change the Way You Burger and Hot Dog

AdShooter Photographs courtesy of Getty Images There’s nothing quite like the word “low-carb” to take the fun out of anything, especially when it comes to two of America’s favorite gastronomic pastimes: pizza and ice cream. However, low-carb burgers and hot dogs do not necessarily require the use of tears as a filling element. Not only does this list cover the finest packaged low-carb burger and hot dog buns available, but it also includes some fresh items that will assist you in reducing carbs in your diet without having to sacrifice flavor.

  • In each bun, you’ll find 72 calories and 16 grams of carbohydrates, with a staggering 12 grams of fiber.

Keto Hot Dog Buns

With these Keto Hot Dog Buns, you can enjoy your hot dogs to the maximum! Bonus? They are quick and simple to create! If you make a purchase after clicking on one of the links in this post, I may receive a small compensation at no additional cost to you. As a result of receiving a lot of criticism that the buns were too little, this post has been changed after it was originally published. I’ve doubled the recipe in order to make four bigger keto hot dog buns for the occasion. If you like the smaller hot dogs, you may either cut this recipe in half or leave it as is, which will result in 8 hot dog buns instead of the usual 4.

When I tell Zoey that we are having a weenie roast for supper, she totally loses her mind with excitement!

But for all of the other occasions, I whip up these wonderful Keto Hot Dog Buns!

They can be made in less than 20 minutes from start to finish.

Why it works

  1. These hot dog buns, which are made with almond flour and cheese, are low in carbohydrates and great in flavor. These buns are extremely quick and simple to cook, taking only 20 minutes from start to finish. Enjoy hot dogs to the fullest extent possible while remaining within your dietary restrictions

Ingredients

  • Almond flour, parmesan cheese, baking powder and soda, garlic powder and onion powder, sea salt, mozzarella cheese, unsalted butter, egg

How to make Keto Hot Dog Buns

Due to the short preparation time required, you may enjoy hot dogs to their fullest potential in just 20 minutes from start to finish with these wiener huggers. You’ll want to preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to start things off. Pour the ingredients into a medium-sizedmicrowaveablebowl, alternating between almond flour and parmesan cheese. Mix well. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Give the mixture a good swirl before adding the shredded mozzarella. Microwave for 45 seconds after sprinkling with a tablespoon of butter.

  1. By this point, the mozzarella should be completely melted.
  2. Microwave for 10 second intervals until it is done.
  3. Using 1 tablespoon of the egg, put it aside, and then pour the remaining egg into the almond flour and cheese mixture.
  4. Gently fold in the vinegar until fully incorporated.
  5. This will help to ensure that the dough retains its volume.
  6. Place the logs on the baking sheet in a uniform layer and brush the tops of each log with the egg that has been left aside.

Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the tops of the muffins are golden brown, in the preheated oven. Allow for a few minutes of cooling time before slicing and stuffing with your hot dogs and relish!

Watch the whole thing go down:

  1. Check to see that the mozzarella has completely melted before adding the egg and vinegar
  2. Make careful to work with this dough with care. If the batter is too thick, you may end up with breadsticks instead of hot dog buns. Using the vinegar in conjunction with the baking powder creates volume, which would be squashed if the dough were kneaded too vigorously
  3. Four big hot dog buns are intended to be produced by this recipe. You may also split the dough into 6 or 8 logs if you want smaller buns
  4. Make the buns by rolling each log until it is the length of a hot dog and then cutting it into shapes as desired.

What low carb side dishes go with hot dogs?

Weenie roast night is generally characterized by the absence of side dishes, leaving only a mound of dogs and a variety of sauce options to be enjoyed as the children’s laughter fills the air. When it comes to the rest of the time, I particularly enjoy pairing hot dogs with salad. Here are some of my personal favorites:

  • The cauliflower broccoli salad with bacon and cheddar
  • Low-carb Caesar salad with kale and cheese crisps
  • Low-carb Broccoli Salad with bacon, cheddar, and kale
  • And low-carb Broccoli Salad with bacon, cheddar, and kale are all options.

Do you want something a little more casual? For some reason, chips and hot dogs go together like peanut butter and jelly. Baked Tortilla Chips, which I prepare with low-carb tortillas, are a favorite of mine. They are so simple and quick to make that you can even bake them at the same time as you make these Keto Hot Dog Buns!

How to store Keto Hot Dog Buns

These buns are best eaten the same day they are made, but they may be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. I try to freeze any leftovers as soon as possible after we consume them in order to preserve their freshness. Simply place the buns in a freezer-safe ziploc bag and store in the freezer for up to 4 months! They thaw quickly, so you can just take them out of the freezer for a short period of time before you proceed to cook your next batch of hot dogs.

Frequently asked questions

100% of the time! Depending on your own personal version of the ketogenic diet, you’ll want to be selective about the products you choose. In order to adhere to strict keto, you should seek for a natural hot dog that does not contain any of the extra junk that is found in cheap hot dogs. Personally, I don’t want to feed my children anything that has been processed, therefore I’m always willing to spend the additional money on natural hot dogs.

How many net carbs are in a hot dog bun?

A normal white hot dog bun has 24 grams of net carbohydrates. Wow, that’s a lot of money, isn’t it? Would you want one of these Keto Hot Dog Buns? Carbohydrates are only 4 g net!

Is ketchup Keto friendly?

That is entirely dependent on the ketchup you choose. The majority of ketchup is comprised primarily of sugar. The quantity of ingredients required to create this delectable sauce is mind-boggling. It’s no surprise that it’s so excellent, is it? It is possible to find brands of ketchup that include “no added sugar,” such as Heinz or Primal Kitchen, that are completely compatible with the keto diet, however you must be cautious about how much you consume. Alternatively, you may experiment and create your own!

  • A wooden spoon
  • A baking sheet lined with nonstick baking mator parchment paper
  • And a microwave-safe bowl.

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with a baking mat or parchment paper, and then put it aside. Using a microwavable bowl, mix the almond flour, parmesan cheese and the remaining ingredients (baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt). Toss in the shredded mozzarella after whisking it together. Microwave for 45 seconds after putting butter on top of the dish. With a wooden spoon, combine the ingredients, microwave for an additional 30 seconds, and then combine again

Remove 1 tablespoon of the egg and put it aside, then pour the remaining egg into the almond flour/cheese mixture and combine thoroughly. Slowly mix in the eggs with a wooden spoon until they are barely incorporated, then gently fold in the vinegar until well combined. Make sure not to overwork the dough, or otherwise these keto hot dog buns will turn into breadsticks. Divide the dough into four halves, then carefully form each section into a weiner-sized log and set it on the baking sheet in an equal layer on top. Using the remaining egg wash, coat the surface of the cake. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the tops of the muffins are golden brown, in the preheated oven. Expert Tips

What Are the Nutrition Facts About Hot Dogs?

Hot dogs may be found practically anyplace, usually served on a bun with ketchup, mustard, or sauerkraut on the side. They are quick and simple to prepare, and they are also reasonably priced. Hot dogs are not typically seen as healthy foods due to the fact that they are intensively processed and can include high levels of fat and salt. As a result of the increased risk of colon cancer connected with processed beef, the World Cancer Research Fund recommends that we “consume little, if any, processed meat.” There are delightful methods to enjoy your dogs without destroying your diet, despite the fact that you may not want to make it a regular practice to eat them often.

Nutrition Facts

The USDA provides the following nutritional information for one beef hot dog and bun (102g) without condiments, which is provided below.

  • 314 calories
  • 18.6 grams of fat
  • 810 milligrams of sodium
  • 24.3 grams of carbohydrates
  • 0.8 grams of fiber
  • 4 grams of sugar
  • 11.4 grams of protein

Health Benefits

Considering the size of the sausage, a standard hot dog and bun is high in calories and fat, including around 314 calories and 18.6 grams of fat. 189 calories and 16.8 grams of fat are provided by the hot dog alone (57 grams). You’ll most likely serve your hot dog on a typical white refined flour hot dog bun, which adds around 126 calories and only a little amount of fiber to the meal (0.81g). Although a hot dog is not very nutritious, if you are a fussy eater who is having difficulty keeping calories under control, a hot dog may be a convenient method to get some calories in quickly.

Common Questions About Hot Dogs

What exactly are nitrates, and why are they so harmful? Sodium nitrate is a preservative that is commonly found in cured meats such as lunch meats, sausages, hot dogs, and bacon, among other things. Your body has the ability to convert nitrates into nitrites, which may subsequently be converted into N-nitroso compounds, which have been linked to certain types of cancer in specific circumstances. So, do hot dogs have a link to cancer? Eating a hot dog every now and then is completely harmless and will not increase your risk of cancer or other health concerns.

  • Nitrates are known to cause cancer, and antioxidants contained in plants, known as polyphenols, may help to attenuate these effects.
  • The consumption of cured meats was shown to be associated with a slightly higher risk of some malignancies according to a 2017 analysis, with the majority of data pointing to an elevated risk of colon cancer.
  • Hot dogs are sausages, but not all sausages are hot dogs, and vice versa.
  • When it comes to eating hot dogs and bratwurst, bratwurst and Polish sausages are quite similar in that they are typically served on huge hot dog buns.

I’m confused as to why hot dogs are offered in packages of ten yet hot dog buns are sold in packages of eight. There may not be a satisfactory response to this question.

Recipes and Preparation Tips

If you’re searching for some healthier alternatives to hot dogs, consider some of the following suggestions:

  • Wrap your puppy in a crescent roll to keep him warm. Crescent Hot Dogs are simple to prepare and a little more interesting than a standard hot dog
  • Just make sure you only eat one at a time. Each of the dogs has a higher fat and salt content. You may enjoy this dish with a salad that includes bright fruits and vegetables, as well as water or a large glass of sugar-free ice tea, and you’ll have a delicious lunch without consuming too many calories. Make use of a whole grain bread and pile on the vegetables. Instead of using a simple white refined hot dog bun, try using an artisan whole grain roll, which will provide you with extra fiber, antioxidants, and a little amount of protein. Dress up your dog with plenty of vegetables to provide nutrients, antioxidants, and volume to improve satiety without adding many calories. Tastes well with guacamole and spicy peppers
  • Vegetarian dogs or low-fat dogs are other good options. Vegetarian hot dogs were formerly difficult to come by, but now that most grocery shops sell many brands, you should be able to find a veggie hot dog that appeals to your tastes. However, while vegetarian hot dogs are often lower in fat and calories than traditional hot dogs, they can be prepared and served in the same manner as a regular hot dog. Keep in mind that the salt content of veggie dogs might be rather high as well.

Always keep an eye out for low-fat hot dogs that are produced with turkey or chicken rather than beef or pork. Examine the labels to see how the calorie counts, salt levels, and total fat differ from one another.

Allergies and Interactions

There are certain people who are allergic to the annatto seed, which is utilized as a natural food colour in hot dogs and other processed meats. In certain cases, nitrates or other additions cause adverse effects in others. Others may be lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy, in which case they will react negatively to typical toppings that include dairy. If you have any of these ailments, make sure to inquire about the method by which your hot dogs were prepared. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

How to make Fathead Keto hot dog buns

These delectable buns are created with the very famous fathead dough, with a slight modification to reduce the carb count even further. The only variation is that I replaced some of the almond flour with powdered golden flaxseeds instead of the almond flour.

Keto hot dog buns ingredients

Almost all of the ingredients needed to make these hot dog buses are common low-carb pantry items. The flours are made of Agent on the rise Enhancers of flavor

  • Yeast (optional) if you want the taste of yeast in your breads and pastries
  • If you like a sweeter loaf, you may add erythritol to the recipe.

Binding Agents are substances that bind to other substances.

How to mold the hot dog buns

Most low carb/keto baking recipes provide a visually appealing result, which is decided by the mold in which they are baked. As a result, I highly recommend using a 6 by 6 square pan or an 8 by 8 square pan if that’s what you happen to have available to you. See the image below for an example of how I utilized it. Take note of the log foil paper that has been twisted up. Instead of using square pans, you may either place the dough logs side by side and close together or use a round baking pan.

Take a look at the image below.

I used these hot dog bun pans a lot before purchasing my 8 by 8 pan for brownies and found them to be quite useful.

These days, I’m relying more on square pans. Alternatively, this YouTube instruction on how to create a twinkie pan is a terrific method to make your own hot dog pans, using heavy-duty metal and a little creativity.

How to make Hot dogs for the keto bun

The color of a well cooked hot dog should be brownish red in appearance. On the inside, it’s still juicy and not dried out. There are four distinct methods to prepare hot dogs.

  1. Make careful to cook the hot dogs on the cooler side of the hot grill so that the hot dogs cook evenly and do not become scorched on the outside while remaining underdone on the inside.
  1. Using this procedure, you can achieve the char markings / grill marks on the hot dogs.
  • In the oven: This strategy will help to warm your home throughout the cold months.
  1. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, or until the hot dogs are browned on the outside and the inside is heated.

On the stovetop, you’ll find:

  1. Fry or grill the hot dogs in about 12 inches of water in a fry pan or grill pan until they are cooked through
  1. Cook hot dogs until the water has evaporated, and then cook them until they are uniformly browned on all sides.
  1. When using the stovetop approach, a grill pan is used to get the grill marks.

Microwave instructions:

  1. Place hot dogs on a platter that is suitable for microwaving
  2. 1 paper towel wrapped around 2 hot dogs
  3. Microwave on high for 50 seconds
  4. Serve. Check to see whether it’s done
  5. If it hasn’t been warmed through, microwave it for another 20 – 30 seconds.

  • Grilling sauce: Instead of using traditional barbecue sauce, try this keto-friendly sugar-free grilling sauce.
  • Hot sauce: Because some hot sauces have added sugar, you may either prepare your own or use this sugar-free version. For those who want to be a little more experimental, you may try theavocado-based spicy sauce or this vegan carrot-based sauce.

  • 14 cups ground golden flaxseeds
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast optional
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese
  • 1 12 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeastoptional
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Set aside the dry ingredients (almond flour, yeast, and baking powder) while you prepare the wet components. Using a microwave-safe bowl, heat the cream cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese in 30 second intervals, until the cheese is uniformly melted and the cream cheese is completely melted. Keep in mind to stir in between (helps to distribute the heat.) It normally takes me approximately 1 minute 30 seconds to a total of 2 minutes, but occasionally it takes me longer. Pour the dry ingredients into the cheese that has been microwaved. Use your hands or a spatula to combine the ingredients, then add the chilled eggs. Make a ball of dough by combining all of the ingredients. Separate the dough into four equal halves. Using each dough log, roll it into a 6-inch-long log. Stack the logs one on top of the other with approximately 1/8 inch between each log. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool
