This dish is one of my favorites. It’s quite simple, and the rolls turn out exactly how my mother used to make them. When I take a loaf of bread out of the freezer, I place it in an 8×8 or big pie pan, sprinkle a little butter on top, and cover it with plastic wrap. This allows the bread dough to rise correctly. In this way, it may rise without having those hard areas on the surface. If the dough has thawed and risen sufficiently, I remove it from the freezer and flatten it into a rectangle, upon which I then spread the filling.

Purchase a three-loaf bundle and see where it leads you—it will take you much beyond a standard loaf of bread. Unless otherwise stated, all of these recipes begin with 1 or 2 loaves of thawed dough. At my house, dinner rolls are a staple dish. Each week, I make an effort to ensure that the menu includes a few foods that everyone in my family appreciates (aka a roll and some fruit). If one of my fussy eaters doesn’t care for the main dish, he or she will still be able to fill up on the other foods already on the table, which will be a win-win situation. It’s true that I operate a food blog, but I am not a restaurant in any way! These rolls come in handy at the worst of times! After supper, we would have a slice of bread, but we would go through a loaf of bread every day for a very long time!

For a period of time, I was obsessed with Rhode’s Rolls.

Because homemade bread is ridiculously inexpensive to produce, I set out to create my own Frozen Dinner Rolls.

How to make Frozen Dinner Rolls

At my house, dinner rolls are a staple dish for any occasion. Whenever I prepare a meal for my family, I make an effort to include a few foods that everyone enjoys (aka a roll and some fruit). If one of my finicky eaters doesn’t like for the main course, he or she will still be able to fill up on the other dishes that are already on the table, which will keep the meal moving along. However, despite the fact that I write a culinary blog, I am not a restaurant! There are times when these rolls come in handy.

Week after week, that’s a significant amount of money to spend simply on bread.

Although it was a delicious roll, the price tag was prohibitively expensive.

Please believe me when I say that these rolls will not let you down.

Baking Frozen Dinner Rolls

The process of baking the frozen dinner rolls could not be simpler! Simply arrange the frozen dinner rolls on a cookie sheet that has been buttered. Spray the tops of the rolls with nonstick spray and then wrap the rolls in plastic wrap to keep them fresh. Allow the rolls to rise on the counter for 3 to 5 hours, or until they have doubled in size. It’s typical for me to pull them out about midday and allow them to rise all afternoon before popping them into the oven for supper. So, here’s what the rolls above looked like after 4 hours of baking: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees for 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  • 4 1/2 teaspoon dry active yeast (2 packages! ), 1/2 cup warm water, 1/4 cup + 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1 tbsp salt, 3 eggs, 7 cups flour, and 1 tablespoon oil for use with the Instant Pot are all you need to make this delicious bread.

Instructions

  1. Using a medium-heat pot, bring the milk to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat as soon as it begins to boil. In a large mixing bowl, combine the heated milk and the cold stick of butter. Allow the butter to soften before stirring. Allow to cool to approximately room temperature
  2. Combine the warm water, yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in a large mixing bowl. While the milk is chilling, allow the yeast to begin to activate. The yeast will become quite bubbly, which indicates that it is still alive. Pour the room-temperature milk and the yeast mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer
  3. Mix on low speed until well combined. Mix in the remaining sugar, salt, and eggs until well combined. Combine until everything is well-combined. Add in 3 cups of flour and stir together just until combined
  4. Slowly incorporate the remaining 4 cups of flour until everything is well-combined. This dough is going to be quite sticky. To raise in the conventional manner, allow to rise until twice in height, punch down, and repeat one more. Step 13 is the next step. If you’re using an Instant Pot, start by pouring the oil into the liner of the Instant Pot and rolling the dough in the oil until it’s completely covered
  5. Otherwise, follow the directions on the package. Make sure the Yogurt button is set to ‘Normal’ by pressing it a second time. Take off the cover and knead a little bit more within the liner after it has been proofed for 20 minutes
  6. Replace the cover and let for another 10 minutes of proofing. Using a floured surface, transfer the dough and carefully shape it into a rectangular shape. (See the image at the top of this post.) Using a pizza cutter, divide the dough into approximately 40 equal portions
  7. And Using your fingers, press the dough edges together below the ball of dough to form each portion into a ball. Repeat the previous process with the remaining dough. For 1 hour, place the dough on a cookie sheet and freeze it. Once the dough has been frozen, place it all in a zip-top bag and keep it in the freezer until required. PREPAREING THE FROZEN DINNER ROLLS FOR BAKE: Take the rolls out of the freezer and set them on a baking sheet that has been buttered. Prep the rolls by spraying them with non-stick spray and covering them with plastic wrap. Set aside for 3-5 hours at room temperature, or until doubled in size. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. As soon as the oven is preheated, bake the rolls on the center rack for 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown. If desired, brush the baked buns with melted butter.

This is far superior to the mushy store-bought ones! I had the frozen bread dough in the freezer and that got me thinking about what to do. After all, why not? Ha! They turned out fantastic! In addition, one loaf yielded six huge buns. These were a huge hit with DH! I guess I’ll have to start creating them from scratch from now on. LOL! In this case, the recipe is more about the instructions. There’s not much to it, but it’s DELICIOUS!

  • A loaf of frozen bread dough (I used a cheap brand, but you could use Rhodes)
  • A couple of tablespoons of melted butter (more butter if necessary)

DIRECTIONS

  • Wrap 1 frozen loaf of bread dough securely in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator overnight the night before. Unwrap the bread the next morning and cut it lengthwise down the center
  • Cut each long piece into three equal portions, resulting in a total of six identical pieces. To ensure that the buns come out smooth in the end, pinch the sliced edges together as you roll them into little ropes. *They should be around the size of a cooked hotdog

However, there are instances when I require a shortcut to get me there. This recipe for simple supper rolls is the result. This recipe for white dinner rolls was inspired by the Pioneer Woman, and it has become a regular fixture at our dinner table ever since I first discovered it. Besides being served on major occasions such as Easter, Thanksgiving Dinner, and Christmas, these Rhodes frozen dinner rolls have also been offered to the extended family on Sunday evenings for our weekend brunch.

Thaw Rhodes rolls in a warm spot at room temperature for 3-5 hours, or until they have doubled in size. Depending on the temperature of your kitchen, the actual cooking time will vary. They should be fluffy and pleasant to the touch. If the dough balls rise excessively, which normally occurs when they are left out for an excessive amount of time or in an excessively warm environment, they will not turn out as well. If you want the greatest results, keep an eye on them after the three-hour mark.

Wait 3 to 5 hours for the frozen Rhodes rolls to rise to their full size before using them.

It is important that the butter is dispersed evenly around the pan.

As a rule, I don’t brush the tops of the rolls with butter because if I apply too much pressure to the rolls, they would deflate.

Baking directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit when it is ready to bake. The Rhodes rolls should be baked for 15-20 minutes once the oven is preheated to the proper temperature. If you are using a different brand of rolls, make sure to check the back of the package for the cooking time before you start baking. I’m confident that they are all quite similar. Remove the rolls from the pan and lay them on a wire rack; this step is not necessary. They are allowed to cool in the pan. Bake until the pull-apart rolls are a gorgeous golden brown color, about 15 minutes.

At a family gathering of around twenty people, I can easily go through three skillets of these simple Rhodes rolls. I’m telling you, they’re just delectable. I don’t want you to miss out on anything, so please do me a favor and help me out. Make them as soon as you get the opportunity. It’s the most enjoyable pleasure to see other people enjoy these little pillows of carbohydrates! When making Rhodes rolls for major gatherings such as Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, the most important factor is oven space.

I can barely fit three 12-inch skillets in my oven, so I only ever increase the recipe to accommodate the crowds. Check to see how many skillets will fit in your oven before selecting how many to prepare, then bake in batches if necessary.
