What To Make With Leftover Hamburger Buns

10 Actually Worthwhile Ways to Use Leftover Buns

Don’t let these surprise cookout basics go to waste because they’re so flexible. The situation is usually the same: you host a picnic and wind up with a handful of straggler hamburger and hot dog buns left behind. It’s possible that you have excellent thoughts of grilling out again the following weekend, but a few weeks later, you tend to always uncover the bag of sad buns hiding between cereal boxes and granola bars in the cupboard with an expiration date that’s gone past its expiration date.

Fortunately, you won’t have to throw out any more of your leftover cook-out bread due to these 10 creative ideas for repurposing your leftovers that don’t entail consuming any more of the burgers and dogs you’ve been savoring all weekend.

Homemade Breadcrumbs

All you need for these homemade “bun crumbs” is a couple of hamburger or hot dog buns plus a little salt and pepper. Bread crumbs, in addition to being a fantastic coating for chicken or pork cutlets, may be used to give a little crunch to a variety of other foods. Simply cook them in a pan with a little oil or melted butter over medium heat for a few minutes, tossing occasionally, then top with chopped herbs or grated cheese if you’re feeling fancy. Once toasted, use them to top pasta, vegetables (such as steamed broccoli or roasted tomatoes), salads, seafood (such as baked salmon) or fried eggs.

All-Purpose Croutons

A crouton cooked from scratch is a crouton worth eating. A delightful way to use up any leftover bread before it goes bad, crunchy, toasty, and buttery croutons are a delicious way to add flavor and heartiness to soups, salads, and other dishes. There is nothing more to do than cutting hamburger or hot dog buns into 1-inch cubes, mixing the cubes in melted butter with spices, and baking them. You may store the croutons in an airtight plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months once they have been cooled completely.

Waste Not, Want Not French Toast (And How To Freeze It)

French Toast from Leftover Hot Dog Buns or Hamburger Buns: Learn how to create the BEST French Toast from Leftover Hot Dog Buns or Hamburger Buns! I despise throwing away food. If you’ve been reading Southern Plate for a while, you’re probably thinking I’m sounding like a broken record on this issue, but I can’t help it; wasting food is something that I despise. Aside from the fact that it is delectable, this Waste Not, Want Not French Toast is one of my favorites! In my family, we’ve heard far too many tales of how food has been limited in the past and how children have gone hungry (in my own family) for me to be able to take food for granted.

  • Growing up, my parents would pretend to be busy while my brother, sister, and I ate so they could make sure we were getting enough food, and then they’d eat whatever was left over after we finished our meals.
  • With all of the celebrations and cookouts taking place this summer, it’s likely that we’ll all have leftover rolls.
  • In addition, I’m not exaggerating when I say “wow.” This French toast from the Waste Not, Want Not movement is to DIE FOR.
  • Interestingly enough, the ingredients are unusual; however, they are not nearly as shocking as the fact that this will almost certainly result in the finest french toast you’ve ever eaten.
  • This is a dish that I enjoy preparing.
  • What we don’t eat on that particular day is placed on baking pans coated with waxed paper and placed in the freezer until firm.
  • Reheating is as simple as placing a slice of bread in the toaster and running it through twice, rotating after the first (this may vary for your toaster).

See my previous article on Depression Bread Pudding, which is another dish that uses up leftover buns, if you’d want to learn more about how I got started (and how I managed to have my family completely obsessed) with baking.

I prefer to keep things as basic as possible.

To create Waste Not, Want Not French Toast, you’ll need the following ingredients: Milk, eggs, cinnamon, and two hamburger or hot dog buns are all you need for this recipe.

Continue to beat it till it screams uncle.

In this manner.

If you leave them sitting in there for too long, they’ll become allsoggified.

It’s also possible to simply melt some butter in it instead of using cooking spray if you like.

Today, I decided to use the spray.

My Diet Dr Peppers are stored in an old refrigerator in the garage.

It is preferable to do things this way.

Note: I’m sure I’ll receive a few emails (at the very least) today complaining about how bad Diet Dr Pepper is for you and all that.

It is, however, my vice, and I want to continue to indulge in it.

I don’t rob banks, and I’m not a member of the terrorist organization.

I’m not even a litterbug.

I am prepared to defend the promise of loyalty.

On my back porch, I feed the birds and let the squirrels to enjoy the sun (see below).

So, what should I do?

Diet Dr Pepper is my beverage of choice.

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen.

It was a beautiful day.

I believe that old Bountiful has been sharing a few too many nuts with his friend, old Henry.

Oh, that’s right.

You’ve been given: Robbers who hold up banks.

Next there is me with my Diet Dr Pepper in my hand (A one a day habit by the way).

If anyone tries to convince you differently, tell them I told them to get off my tractor.

(I don’t often say words like “Dude,” but it worked in this situation.) Cook over medium heat, turning once, until both sides are browned.

This is a terrible situation.

Inform everyone in your household of this while they are salivating so that you can keep it all to yourself!

With a fork, combine all of the ingredients (save the buns) until well-combine. Each side of the bun should be dipped in the mixture. Place the buns in a pan that has been coated with cooking spray and cooked over medium heat until they are warm. Fry for a couple of minutes on each side, or until the chicken is browned. Toss with syrup while still heated, and enjoy!

Easy Bread Pudding (From Leftover Buns!)

Friends, the ChefPauper household does not believe in wasting anything (food or otherwise). I do this to avoid having to throw away leftover hotdog and hamburger buns. It’s not quite as bizarre as it appears! Now, thawing them and then utilizing them to make hamburgers or hot dogs isn’t the most perfect situation. I could go into detail on how freezing and thawing creates structural changes to the bread as a result of the ice that develops as a result of the moisture contained inside it, and how this affects texture and flavor, but that would be really dull.

Yes, you are correct.

Let’s make some easy bread pudding!

In the picture, you can see that I’m using two hotdog buns, two hamburger buns, and the butt end of a random loaf of bread; simply modify the ingredients so that they have the same approximate ratio of the bread to the other components. It is not an exact science, so don’t be concerned if you are missing an egg or are running out on milk. In this room, the food is going to get really good.

For this recipe, you’re going to need:

  • Buns that are 4-5 days old or buns that have been thawed from your freezer 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3-4 eggs, lightly beaten (I’ve found that either of the two works just well)
  • Milk, 3/4 cup white sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (serves 2)

Let’s get baking!

At begin, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C). After that, split the buns into small pieces and place them in an 8-inch square baking sheet (after thoroughly cleaning your hands). Drizzle them with melted butter after they’ve been baked. It’s raining! In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is well-combined. You are not required to use the world’s tiniest whisk, but it will not harm you if you do.

  • Make a big deal out of it.
  • Bake for 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top of the cake bounces back when softly tapped on the counter.
  • I recommend serving this delectable meal hot, with a scoop of ice cream on the side for dessert!
  • Preparation time: 10 minutes Preparation time: 35 minutes Time allotted: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • Buns from the day before or buns from your freezer that have been thawed
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Bread should be broken into tiny pieces and placed in an 8-inch square baking tray. Over the bread, drizzle melted butter
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is well-combined. Lightly press down with a fork until the bread is completely coated and absorbing the egg mixture
  3. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Heat the oven to 350°F and bake for 35 minutes, or until the top of the cake springs back when lightly pressed.

What to Do When You’ve Got Too Many Buns on Your Hands

It’s important to me to be well-prepared when it comes to entertaining. For example, if I’m cooking Martha Stewart’s insanely delicious macaroni and cheese, you can know I’ll double the creamy béchamel and the noodles; for this crisp skillet chicken with salty olives and caramelized lemons, I bulk up the bird while also going heavy on the marinade and seasonings. Perhaps it arises from my apprehension about leaving a guest hungry, or it may be the effect of that one time when I didn’t purchase enough tomatoes to makeMarcella Hazan’s iconic sauce for a gathering of ten people.

  1. ), or both.
  2. Whether it’s a hamburger or a hot dog, I usually end up with an excess of perfectly delicious bread that eventually goes rock-solid stale after a few days in the refrigerator.
  3. The only thing I could come up with for them was to cook a sandwich, which I dutifully did.
  4. Some friends and I got together a few of weeks ago to try out one of the dishes from Food52’s grilling contest: succulent flank steak sandwiches with tangy blue cheese coleslaw.
  5. Our whole staff was required to work from home the next day due to an event that was taking place at the workplace.
  6. With few viable breakfast alternatives in my fridge (apart from an egg or two and some milk), I was faced with a choice between starving till midday or coming up with something inventive.
  7. The realization hit me as I was peering into my pantry: the rolls!

These buns, which are still soft and buttery, would be ideal for serving with French breakfast.

It took less than 10 minutes and a few of drizzles of maple syrup before I was scarfing down my carb-iphany meal.

The future of rejected and unloved hamburger buns appeared to be brighter than it had ever been.

I had ideas of stuffing the French toast–ified hot dog buns with morning sausage, a slice of bacon, and, of course, additional maple syrup, despite the fact that I have yet to taste it myself.

Just keep in mind that the options are truly limitless if you think outside of the sandwich framework.

Using Leftover Hamburger Buns to Make Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

You are here: Home/Recipes/Making Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Leftover Hamburger Buns (Using Leftover Hamburger Buns) I’ve previously discussed creative ways to use leftover hamburger buns. Another one of my favorite things to do with hamburger buns, especially when they’re starting to become a little less soft, is to create grilled cheese sandwiches with them. I can’t claim any of these concepts as my own. Amanda, one of my best friends, made grilled cheese sandwiches for the entire group using hamburger buns that they had received from family members after a large barbecue.

  • In any case, I believe she’s brilliant regardless of whether or not she makes cheese sandwiches.) To prepare these delicious grilled cheese sandwiches, just open the buns and spread butter on the insides of the buns before assembling them (both halves).
  • After that, you may top it with whichever cheese you want to.
  • Okay, I mentioned cheese, but it appears that I was referring to anything that even faintly resembled cheese.
  • Personally, Eric and I enjoy a small amount of white American cheese followed by a small amount of marble cheddar.
  • This summer, while attempting to give a large group of people a variety of leftovers, I cooked these sandwiches for a small group of people.
  • I like that they are not only delicious, but they also prevent me from going into the cupboard and discovering a science experiment on hamburger buns that I had forgotten about before.

Make use of any leftover hamburger and hot dog buns from your weekend summer barbecues by making these Garlic-Cheese Croutons, which are delicious on top of garden salads or on their own. I’m quite aware of what you’re thinking. What about Garlic-Cheese Croutons? What a DISAPPOINTING blog entry this is going to be! Or at the very least, those were the ideas that were going through my brain when I decided to create these cookies. My attention was drawn away from the task at hand and I thought to myself, “If this were one of your nieces, would they know how to make handmade croutons?” And the response was a resounding, resounding NO.

You’ll get to watch how I create homemade croutons from of hot dog and hamburger buns that have been sitting around.

We don’t have hot dogs very often (G is the only one who truly like them), but my daughter had a hankering for them last week, so I purchased a packet of them and some rolls to satisfy her craving.

And because they don’t keep well in the freezer for lengthy periods of time, I created these Garlic-Cheese Croutons, which are the kids’ favorite type of croutons.

If you don’t have any leftover rolls, it’s not a big deal. However, these potato rolls offered a delightful sweet flavor that could be substituted with whatever leftover bread you may have on hand.
