Chocolate Croissants – “It’s Complicated”

The 6th of May, 2010 My love for chocolate croissants began when I saw the movie It’s Complicated, and it has only grown stronger since then. There has been a lot of discussion regarding this movie in the blogging world. It is yet another gorgeous set design by Nancy Meyers and her team of specialists, which has garnered the praise of the design bloggers. These are the same individuals that gave you the stunning Hamptons home featured in Something’s Gotta Give. Design aesthetics appeal to me as well, and I often find myself studying the interiors of houses in my favorite movies for their intricate details.

Just take a look at Meryl Streep’s kitchen in the film, for example.

How about this kitchen?

I wouldn’t do that.

  • A dent is also visible in the refrigerator door when you watch the footage, which makes for an interesting visual effect.
  • ” She was the mother of three children.
  • For the purposes of this piece, I must inform you that my favorite scene in the film was when Meryl Streep went Steve Martin to her bakery after hours and made him chocolate croissants.
  • Even though I do not have a photograph of the chocolate croissants, I recall the moment well.
  • They were “very” peckish.
  • The sequence in which she was cutting and filling the croissants with chocolate was bliss for me.
  • I grew infatuated with it.

Life has been “complex,” and with the return to Lake Lure, there have been other responsibilities to attend to than the trip home.

The recipe that I used came from Julia Child’s Kitchen, which you can find here.

There is a very similar recipe available on the internet at All Recipes that will provide the same results.

Croissants are nothing more than a yeast dough that has been layered with butter to create a flaky pastry.

The dough is shown in the photo below, ready for its third turning.

The top third of the paper is folded down to the centre.

After that, it is rotated a quarter turn, rolled, and folded one more.

It is possible to weigh it down and store it in the refrigerator for up to two days following the fourth rotation and fold.

They are ready for the final rise and baking, or you may freeze them until you are ready to use them.

Despite the fact that the procedure took me two days, just a little amount of actual hands-on time was necessary.

Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to operate a bakery similar to this one. No, I don’t think I’m up to that kind of challenge. Additionally, perhaps creating croissants from scratch is too difficult. But I surely hope that my garden will be as beautiful as this. Let your imagination go wild!

White Chocolate Chunk Lavender Ice Cream.

You’re well aware of what this ice cream represents. I’ve been consuming much too much media. It’s become complicated once again. It’s my all-time favorite film because it relates to my inner 55-year-old self. It’s as if the movie was written specifically for me and my old lady spirit. You may not be aware that Meryl Streep appears in that film and serves lavender honey ice cream to all of the young men in the yard. Or anything along those lines. I created croissants a few years ago because I wanted to be a fly on the wall in Steve Martin and Meryl Streep’s bakery scene in the movie “The Baker.” Yes, since, after all, this is real life.

  • Laziness.
  • It’s similar to chocolate.
  • And truffles, of course.
  • Andfluffernutters.
  • Lavender, for example, is quite light.
  • This is really a health food in every sense of the word.
  • very light.

Wait.

That is to say, it’s a type of vegetable, correct?

You’re not going to get out of this one easily.

Don’t be bothered by the white chocolate.

It’s undoubtedly delectable, and it serves an important function in this dish.

Apparently, ice cream is the answer for me.

There are no flowers in this ice cream, which is flavored with lavender and topped with chocolate pieces.

Then you’ll need a colossal spoon.

  • 2 a 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1 1/2 cups whole milk, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup dried culinary lavender, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons vanilla essence, and 12 ounces white chocolate, chopped
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, simmer the cream, milk, sugar, lavender, and salt until warm. Continue to stir continually until the sugar is completely dissolved. Continue to heat the mixture until it is warm to the touch and begins to bubble slightly around the edges. Removing the pan from the heat, stirring in the vanilla essence, and allowing the liquid to settle at room temperature for 60 minutes so that the lavender can infuse is recommended. Using a fine mesh screen, strain the milk through the lavender and set it aside for another hour. Add the mixture to a large mixing bowl and chill until cold, at least 30 to 60 minutes. Once the mixture is cool, transfer it to your ice cream machine and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until frozen. Add the white chocolate chunks a few minutes before the ice cream has finished churning to finish it off. Once the ice cream has completed churning, spoon it into a freezer-safe container and cover it with plastic wrap. Freeze for at least 4 to 6 hours before serving. Allow for a few minutes of cooling time before serving to allow the ice cream to soften.

Lavender Honey Ice Cream

My memory of the movie “It’s Complicated” is hazy, but I don’t recall paying attention to the narrative at all the first time. The lovely mansion that Meryl Streep’s character, Jane Adler, lived in kept me from paying attention to what was going on on. In addition, I’m taking mental notes about all of the amazing cuisine! I had a feeling I’d be creating Lavender Honey Ice Cream very soon! It’s fantastic beyond description! The floral notes of fresh lavender are just right, but the floral notes of fresh lavender truly steal the show.

  • He requested that I cook it for him as a dessert.
  • It has now surpassed all others as the most requested taste!
  • I am fortunate enough to have a lavender farm in my neighborhood, and they always have delicious culinary lavender on hand!
  • If you have never made ice cream before, you should definitely give it a shot.
  • During the summer months, we have this ice cream machine, which is seldom put away because it is so convenient.

Both the lavender and the honey used in this recipe are sourced from local suppliers. A delicately sweet and florally flavored ice cream that will impress your guests at your next summer party! Why not whip up a batch of ice cream today? Until the next time.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons culinary grade dried lavender flowers
  • 3 tablespoons raw honey
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups full milk

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the milk, lavender, and honey and bring to a medium boil. After removing the pan from the heat, cover it and let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the egg yolks and sugar and beat until slightly thickened and pale yellow in color. Remove the milk/lavender combination from the strainer, keeping the liquid and discarding the lavender flowers
  2. Bringing the milk back to a simmer over medium heat should be sufficient. Slowly whisk in approximately a quarter of the heated milk mixture into the egg mixture, being sure to whisk constantly
  3. Continue to cook over medium low heat, stirring regularly, until the mixture is incorporated into the remaining milk. Remove the mixture from the heat when it has thickened enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon and stir in the heavy cream. Finally, strain the mixture into a dish that has been placed in an ice bath. Allow the mixture to cool fully. Before processing, the mixture must be very cool. Gradually pour the cool mixture into the bowl of an ice cream machine and process for approximately 20 minutes, or for as long as the manufacturer’s directions specify. The consistency of the ice cream will be soft serve. Transfer to a container with a tight-fitting cover that has been pre-chilled and freeze for approximately 2 hours before serving

It has been a long time since I have burst out laughing like that. There I was, iPad in hand, alone in a darkened living room, laughing my head off. LMFAO! Seriously, I was laughing so hard that I started to tear up. If you’ve seen It’s Complicated (the Food ‘n Flix September choice), I’m sure you’ll recognize the part that made me laugh the most. It was, in fact, the sophisticated Alec Baldwin seduction scene, complete with carefully placed laptop computer screen. That’s all there is to it. Thank you, France, for taking on the hosting duties this month.

  1. The role played by Meryl Streep will no doubt capture the attention of many others as well.
  2. So much so that she is still on excellent terms with her ex-husband, Jake Adler, despite their split (played by Alec Baldwin).
  3. A simple, beautiful lunch consisting of tossed salad and Croque Monsieur was prepared.

  6. Jane claims that she learnt to prepare this meal when she was younger and living in Paris since it was quite inexpensive.
  7. After purchasing blocks of Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses, as well as cut Virginia Ham, I had around twenty-five dollars left over for my “affordable” supper.

On FoodNetwork, I discovered a delicious dish from Ina Garten.

The only thing I changed about the recipe was that I used smoked Gruyere instead of regular.

I made the decision to produce my own bread.

1 cup of hot water 1 package yeast (about 2 1/4 t.) 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (plus more for oiling rising bowl) a half teaspoon of sugar a half teaspoon of fine sea salt 2 1/2 – 3 c.

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the oil, sugar, and salt until well combined.

Pour the oil mixture into the yeast water.

Using a dough hook, knead the dough for 10 minutes.

Place the dough in the bowl and flip it once to coat the top with oil.

Turn the dough out onto a floured board and roll it into a rectangle measuring 6 x 12.

Ends should be pinched and shaped.

Using a pastry brush, wet the top of the loaf.

Allow the dough to rise uncovered for 60 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.

Bake for 10 minutes after the bread has risen.

This dish may easily be doubled without losing its effectiveness.

Dinner for one on a “lonely night.” Due to the fact that I had some cheese sauce and Gruyere leftover from supper, I decided to makeCroque Monsieur for breakfast the next morning.

I toasted it and covered it with Dijon mustard, bacon, cheese, and an egg before slathering it with cheese sauce and broiling it for a few minutes.

I have to admit that I really like this dish even without the top slice of bread on top of everything.

Because I had some leftover cheese sauce, I decided to make it again when The Hubs returned home for another meal.

It is a little more manageable and not nearly as full as the original (if that is possible).

This is something I will absolutely make again!

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes will be held at The Law Student’s Cookbook on the first of the month.

And now for something completely unrelated: I am overjoyed that the newest Meryl Streep film is being filmed right here in my home state of Oklahoma.

A fantastic cast is being gathered, and the production company has bought a magnificent antebellum style home in Pawhuska for use as a set.

Meghan Y. posted a comment on October 18, 2013/0Comments » In other words, the choice to do this may or may not have been inspired by a Meryl Streep movie. Meryl Streep is one of my favorite actresses. She’s simply so. beautiful, stunning, talented, and wonderful, to name a few adjectives. It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep, is one of my all-time favorite movies. I believe that is also the only film in which Alec Baldwin appears that I truly love. Tell me whether you’ve watched It’s Complicated because if you haven’t, you should watch it right away.

  • It’s simply a matter of time until it happens.
  • I’d seen images of it and heard a lot of good things about it, but I’d never tried it myself.
  • Of course, there’s no way a sandwich that’s literally buried with cheese could be anything but delicious.
  • I’m talking about putting cheese between the slices, drowning the entire sandwich with cheese sauce, and then putting cheese on top of it all and broiling it till it’s bubbling and golden brown.

Oh my goodness. Oh, and did I mention that this is a really inexpensive supper to prepare as well? WIN! Give me a lifelong supply of them, and I’m quite sure I’d die a contented young lady. It’s impossible not to be happy when you eat this delightful little croque monsieur.

As I mentioned before, I make ice cream whenever I am unable to sleep. “I’m relieved that someone was here to consume it.” – Jane Adler, author It’s a Difficult Situation It’s Complicated, featuring Meryl Streep, has been on my mind ever since I saw it. Alec Baldwin is a well-known actor. I’ve been wanting to create Honey Lavender Ice Cream for a long time. Despite the fact that the film’s principal narrative features a dysfunctional family and a love triangle, the underlying theme is unquestionably that of food!

Adler, played by Meryl Streep, is a recent culinary school graduate from France who spends most of the film baking pies for her girlfriends, whipping uppain au chocolat for her architect, roasting chicken and baking chocolate cake for her ex-husband, and preparing elaborate meals for her family.

  • ), the Honey Lavender Ice Cream was the item that drew my eye.
  • After experimenting with a number of various recipes, I came up with this one, which incorporates the best characteristics of each.
  • There is no sugar added to the recipe, and the sweetness is governed completely by the honey and cream used in the preparation.
  • Ideal candidates have a moderate flavor, such as acacia, which has a low acid level and is extremely light in color, and have a low acid content and light color.
  • Honey from the black locust or false acacia tree is light in color, moderate in flavor, and undertones of vanilla in the aroma.
  • It is referred to as “raw” because it is cold-pressed and has antibacterial and antibiotic qualities that are naturally occurring.
  • To create the Honey Lavender Ice Cream, keep in mind that it should be made at least one day ahead of time to allow for freezing time.

Cheers, “Ice Cream with Honey and Lavender” This recipe yields roughly 1 pint.

Cover with a clean cloth and let aside for 30 minutes.

Remove the mixture from the pot and place it back on the stove over medium heat until it is hot.

Repeat with the remaining cups of hot cream mixture, whisking constantly to avoid eggs from frying.

Pour the mixture through a sieve again and into a clean dish, stirring occasionally to avoid a skin from developing on the surface of the mixture.

Allow to cool completely before covering with plastic wrap and chilling in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.

Freeze mixture in an ice cream maker according per manufacturer’s instructions. Garnish with lavender flowers that have been dried and enjoy! “Sweet Treat: Honey Lavender Ice Cream!” is a recipe that first featured on The Glamorous Gourmet.

Food ‘n Flix – It’s Complicated

After being absent for several months, I am finally returning for the September Food ‘n Flixmovie, which will be hosted by France at Beyond the Peel. It’s Complicated was the featured film for this month, and it starred Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin among others. In the film, Streep and Baldwin portray a couple who had been divorced for more than a decade but who begin an affair once their youngest child departs for college, despite Baldwin having remarried and his adultery being the basis for their divorce in the first place.

  1. Streep plays a bakery owner who also happens to be a fantastic home cook in the film (her food being one of the things Baldwin misses most about her).
  2. I finally purchased a mandoline, and this was the first time I had the opportunity to put it to use!
  3. Slice the zucchini and yellow squash thinly (you may use whichever method you like), then spread them out on paper towels and sprinkle with salt, allowing them to drain for 30 minutes.
  4. Fold up the sides of the galette and place the slices on a ring of pastry dough that has been coated with a mixture of Ricotta (I used handmade), Parmesan, and Mozzarella and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. A variation on this recipe included honey in the filling mixture, which I would not recommend using in the future.

Recipe adapted from Eat Yourself Skinny: Squash Galette Crust: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour that has not been bleached a quarter teaspoon of salt 8 tablespoons light butter, room temperature 2 ounces light cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup icy water, with an optional extra tablespoon if needed 1 medium zucchini (for stuffing) 1 medium yellow summer squash (about) 1 garlic clove (about) 1 cup ricotta cheese (optional) 1 tablespoon of honey 1 egg white (optional) 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese a quarter cup of shredded mozzarella cheese 1 egg yolk for the egg wash 1 teaspoon of water 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil as a finishing touch basil leaves that have been freshly picked In a medium-sized mixing basin, whisk together the flour and salt.

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cold butter and cream cheese until the clumps are no larger than peas.
  • Adding an additional tablespoon of water is completely acceptable when necessary.
  • While the dough is chilling, prepare the filling for the dough.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of salt on each piece and set aside for 30 minutes to let the paper towels to absorb the excess moisture.
  • To make the filling, combine ricotta cheese, egg white, garlic, honey, thyme, Parmesan, and mozzarella cheeses in a large mixing bowl.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Place the rolled-out dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spread the ricotta mixture over the dough, stopping approximately 2 inches from the border of the baking sheet.
  • You want your pie to have the appearance of a perfectly round circle.

Place the pie in the oven for around 40 to 45 minutes, depending on how much olive oil you used. Remove from the oven and, if preferred, sprinkle with fresh basil before serving. 1/4 galette: 500 calories, 25.5 g fat, 45 g carbohydrates, and 21 g protein (per serving).

Katie Lee Biegel Gives Us a Recipe Inspired by Nancy Meyers

It’s not difficult to sit down and watch your all-time favorite movie. Cooking a dinner that might be served in a scene from your all-time favorite movie appears to be an enormously intricate and doomed to failure to those of us who are disaster artists at the stove.
