Thrillist photographer Maggie Rossetti There are three approaches to fast food desserts – and, naturally, fast food in general – that you may take. You have the option of dismissing everything as garbage and turning a deaf ear. In a pretension-soaked, holier-than-thou, but still-cool, food critic fashion, you may choose your locations and savor certain choice delicacies (which is almost just as annoying). Alternatively, you may embrace all of the delights of fast food for what they are, enjoy them, and then diligently rate the things you loved for other people to read, comment on, like, share, and subscribe to, so creating a positive experience for everyone involved.

In that spirit, the following are the best fast food desserts available in our wonderful country, as graded by overall quality and ability. It’s brimming with uninhibited, shameless, and uncaring affection. Please accept it in that spirit. Thrillist photographer Maggie Rossetti

13. McDonald’s: M M McFlurry

Does it count as fast food heresy for me to not only include the much-maligned McFlurry on a “best of” list, but also to refrain from selecting the (likely) more popular Oreo version? No. The McFlurry isn’t without flaws. A quick-serve mélange of gelatinous, bland ice cream that some critics could deem more akin to caulk than dairy, it might be considered a success. When it comes to this particular case, you may even be critical of the frozen M Ms that have been robotically sprinkled throughout the mixture – they might not melt in your hand, but (for some reason?) they do melt in the McFlurry.

  1. Given what we know, that should be a horrible situation.
  2. Following the ingestion of a fast food burger, it is dependent on you forgetting what you believe you care about in a dessert and starting to rely on what tastes the greatest to you.
  3. To put it another way, just chill out, geeks.

12. Jack in the Box: Mini Churros

According to appearances, Jack in the Box caters to a certain target demographic: folks who are a touch stoned and want something tasty but a little strange. Exactly what they promise to be, these little churros are delicious. In exchange for one solitary dollar, you will receive a grease-laden jar containing five bite-sized churros that are crispy on the exterior and soft on the inside. This churro is significantly different from the typical, thinly sliced churro you’d get on the street since it has a gooey sauce poured down the centre of each stick, which can only be described as churro-flavored corn syrup.

However, if you’re looking for something outrageous, hedonistic, and dirt-cheap, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal anywhere else.

11. Long John Silver’s: Fried Twinkie

Whatever marketing and/or research and development genius decided to divert LJS’s hushpuppies and fish from the deep fryers merits the artery-clogging equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s a Twinkie, of course. It has been deep-fried. It’s difficult to make a mess of this State Fair favorite. Long John Silver’s, on the other hand, did not. Thankfully. Thrillist photographer Maggie Rossetti

10. Bojangles’: Sweet Potato Pie

Anyone responsible for steering LJS’s hushpuppies and fish away from the deep fryers deserves the artery-clogging equivalent of a Nobel Peace Prize for their marketing and/or research and development efforts.

What do you think it is? A Twinkie, of course. Everything about it has been deep-fried. Nothing can go wrong when it comes to this State Fair classic. The same could not be said about Long John Silvers. Thankfully. Maggie Rossetti for Thrillist Magazine

9. White Castle: Fudge Dipped Cheesecake on a Stick

It is preferable to eat White Castle when you are experiencing a severe case of the munchies (drunchies). It’s the sort of establishment where you “act now, consider later.” It’s the fast food version of a one-night stand, but one that occurs on a far more frequent basis than once. It’s unlikely that the cheesecake on a stick will be something you want to boast about to your friends. On the other hand, around midnight on a Tuesday, just out of a cocktail bar, a perfectly competent, superbly snack-sized slice of ultra-savory cheesecake (on a stick) is exactly what the after-dinner mint White Castle sliders require.

8. Popeyes: Cinnamon Apple Pie

In the midst of a frantic drunchies need, White Castle is the dish to indulge in. It’s the kind of place where you “do something now and think afterwards.” It’s the fast food version of a one-night stand, but one that occurs on a far more frequent basis than one might expect. If you’re looking for something to brag about, the cheesecake on a stick might not be it. After dinner mint White Castle sliders deserve nothing more than a perfectly competent, brilliantly snack-sized slice of ultra-savory cheesecake (on a stick) when it’s midnight on a Tuesday and you’ve just gotten out of the bar.

7. Sonic Drive-In: Fresh Banana Classic Shake

As the lone actual “shake” establishment on our list, you can expect Sonic to be packing a serious banger in their Styrofoam cups when you visit. Outside of Mr. BenJerry’s, it appears to be rather difficult to get banana ice cream that is both tasty and affordable. When it comes to banana snacks, many manufacturers go beyond in their efforts to infuse their products with as much banana-like flavor as possible, resulting in a product that tastes more like liquified Runts than genuine bananas. Contrary to expectations, this drink contains no trace of the artificial, saccharine flavor associated with pseudo-fruit.

And this is due to the fact that they truly did.

6. Chick-fil-A: Frosted Sunrise

Chick-fil-Frosted A’s Sunrise is not Jimmy Buffett’s next chart-topping tropical-tinged smash; rather, it is Chick-fil-ridiculously A’s delicious take on the classic Orange Julius. The frozen beverage, which contains the eating power duo of soft serve ice cream and orange juice, is a chilly, creamsicle-like dosage of refreshment that may or may not freeze your brain, but will surely fill you with delight.

Additionally, it receives bonus points for being one of the only products on our list that is entirely appropriate to consume before midday. When combined with a chicken biscuit, you’ll have reached munching heaven. You can contact us at any time. Jollibee has been edited.

5. Jollibee: Peach Mango Pie

Apple pie is available at almost every long-standing fast-food establishment. Look, we get what you’re saying. It’s hard to imagine anything more warm and American than the fragrance of spiced cinnamon and baked apples. Apple pie, on the other hand, might get monotonous if every other restaurant chain serves a Hot Pocket-style version of the dish. This, however, is precisely how Jollibee is able to achieve success. Fruity and colorful, the Peach Mango pie is aromatic and tropical, with delicious peaches and mangoes.

This produces a heated pie that sticks out against a background of bland cinnamon apple pie ingredients.

This is because to the hot oil bath that the pie had (yep, Jollibee’s pies are fried rather than baked, which makes all the difference) and the cinnamon sugar that was sprinkled on the outside.

4. Culver’s: Vanilla Custard

Custardoc enjoys a unique position in the pantheon of American eating traditions. To be sure, it isn’t as well-known or appreciated as ice cream, which is its more attention-seeking older brother. Nevertheless, for many individuals who know the secret, custard is the only frozen treat that is worth the calories consumed. It’s a savory, richer, almost-buttery version of your basic scoop of ice cream. There’s likely no one who does mass-produced custard better than Culver’s, a regional burger business that has garnered an enthusiastic fanbase while also earning a reputation for providing high-quality service in a fast-food atmosphere.

  1. And if you’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing that (very unique) slice of American heaven, you’ll understand that this is the greatest possible praise.
  2. It’s not really ice cream, is it?
  3. As much a part of Wendy’s legend as Dave Thomas, baked potatoes, and square burgers are, this is a must-see.
  4. However, one reviewer believes that by adding another concentrated blast of creamy vanilla to the chocolate Frosty, it may be even better.
  5. They’re like the John Lennon and Paul McCartney of frozen desserts from big burger chains.

It should be spooned. Keep an eye on it while it melts. It’s okay to drink it. It’s fantastic. Essentially, it is the frozen fast food dessert of our generation. MaggieRossetti/Thrillist

2. Taco Bell: Cinnamon Sticks

Taco Bell’s signature dessert, which is perhaps the most “simple” inclusion on this whole list, does more with a few basic ingredients than other fast food establishments accomplish with an entire refrigerator full of corn syrup, food coloring, and crossover gimmicks. The simple twists are topped with a thin sprinkling of cinnamon, have an instantly recognizable crunch, and are as light as a ping-pong ball in terms of weight, which makes devouring them astonishingly simple and eternally pleasant.

  • As a pleasant reference to what you could loosely recognize as “Mexican” food, it is also quite different from that.
  • It’s among the top-five selections on their whole menu.
  • 2 contender in the tangle of fast food desserts that is dense, perplexing, and more often than not wonderful.
  • They are rarely as memorable as our all-time favorite fast-food dessert, the simple Yoshinoya Cheesecake, which is available at most locations.
  • It has a delicate sweetness that is not overbearing.
  • It does not break into cooked pieces, douse your mouth with sugar sprinkles with each mouthful, or cause your teeth to become numb.
  • Despite its simplicity, this dish is a mouthful of delight in terms of texture and flavor, despite its simplicity.
  • It’s true that sometimes, after a hearty dish of rice, stewed onions, and harsh ginger, all you want is a piece of cheesecake that isn’t cloying, won’t numb your taste receptors with sugar, and won’t burn your tongue with scalding hot filling.

Pies

Burger King provided this image. The rough crust and overpowering flavor of this pie slice didn’t go down well with our group. One editor described it as tasting like “unmixed hot chocolate,” which isn’t exactly what you’d expect from a dessert like a pie. It was also noted that another person compared the too sweet slice to diet chocolate, which wasn’t a good omen. There was one thing, though, that worked in favor of this pie, and that was the nostalgia factor. The pie was compared to childhood cups of chocolate milk produced from Hershey’s syrup by several of our tasters, and they couldn’t help but recall their own childhood memories of eating chocolate milk in their childhood.

  • Meghan De Maria is the author of Eat This, Not That!
  • The crust is just thick enough, and despite the fact that this was the first location we visited on our fast-food excursion, the pie still tasted fresh.
  • That was something I had not anticipated.
  • / Meghan De Maria / Eat This, Not That!
  • The cinnamon coating on the outside of the shell.
  • There are a plethora of reasons why the Popeyes pie reigned supreme—and why it was named to several editors’ top-three fast-food desserts lists, as well.
  • She characterized it as “extremely soft,” and she went on to say that it “melts” in her mouth.
  • One editor commented about this pie, saying, “My life has been permanently transformed.” “This was a long-shot bet for me, but it ended up being the love of my life in the end.

Just the right amount of cinnamon sugar is sprinkled on top of a delightfully crunchy crust. With each taste, the flavor improves!”

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Burger King provided the image. The rough crust and overpowering flavor of this pie slice didn’t go down well with our group of taste testers. One editor described it as tasting like “unmixed hot chocolate,” which isn’t exactly what you’d expect from a dessert like a slice of pie. An further commenter compared the too sweet slice to diet chocolate, which was also a bad omen. Only one thing worked in favor of this pie, and that was the nostalgic quality it brought to mind. A few of our tasters couldn’t help but think of their childhood memories when they were served this pie, which was compared to cups of chocolate milk prepared with Hershey’s syrup, among other things.

  1. Eat This, Not That!
  2. Apple pie won out over strawberry pie in our taste test, but both Popeyes alternatives were a hit with our panel of judges!
  3. A reviewer of this pie said, “It tastes like cheesecake—wow!” “Oh, my God, this is fantastic!
  4. I was surprised.
  5. by Meghan De Maria I love the crust because it’s flaky, golden, and filled with butter.
  6. A taste that is reminiscent of freshly cooked apples.

According to one editor, “I’m not a fan of apple pie, but I really like this.” The flavor, she said, was “extremely delicate,” and she said it “melts in your tongue.” During a blind taste test, another editor stated that she would have assumed this was a slice of fresh apple pie, rather than a slice of Popeyes apple pie.

” “Despite the fact that this was a dark horse for me, it turned out to be the love of my life.

With each taste, it becomes better and better.”

Frozen Treats

The typical chocolate Frosty was a hit with our tasters, but the vanilla Frosty was a different story. Several tasters commented that the vanilla flavor was overpowering and fake in nature. “I can’t describe how awful the flavor is. I have no idea why they bother to make this “according to one editor (who happened to rank the chocolate Frosty as1). “This is a slap in the face of the Frosty heritage.” The two McFlurry tastes, like the two Frosty varieties, were at polar different ends of the spectrum in our taste test.

  1. This pleasure, according to several editors, was similar to swallowing a mouthful of chilly M Ms, which is hardly anyone’s notion of a good time.
  2. I’m not a fan of it at all “”This is a real pleasure,” one editor stated of this delight.
  3. “It’s so thick and creamy, the foundation is wonderful, and the flavor is excellent,” one editor remarked.
  4. “It tastes just like actual custard,” one editor said about this delicacy.
  5. While three of our editors like the decadent chocolate flavor of this custard alternative, others felt that the richness was excessive for a single dessert.
  6. “This is next-level chocolate,” one editor gushed over the Shake Shack custard, noting that it “tastes like it’s high-quality rather than fast-food.” Several tasters stated that they would be unable to eat a whole dish of this custard due to the intensity of the chocolate flavoring.
  7. RELATED: Recipes with no added sugar that you’ll genuinely look forward to eating.

When you order a chocolate Frosty, you know exactly what you’re getting, and that’s not a bad thing.

According to one editor, the chocolate Frosty is “a timeless classic that can’t go wrong.” “It reminds me of a chocolate malt beverage.

This iconic delight was available to everyone at our local McDonald’s, thanks to the fact that the McFlurry machine was not malfunctioning.

This dessert was dubbed “ice cream nirvana” by one editor, and a large number of tasters concurred.

In his review of the Oreo McFlurry, he commented, “When it’s frozen, it’s an ice joy.” “If you melt it down, it makes a delicious Oreo milkshake.

Win/win.” The most significant review for this McFlurry came from a former Dairy Queen employee who was a contributor to the publication. Because McDonald’s was considerably more liberal with the toppings than DQ, she stated that the experience was absolutely Oreo-heavy at McDonald’s.

15 Best Fast Food Desserts

However, our tasters were divided on the vanilla Frosty, which was a big disappointment. The vanilla flavor was described as overbearing and unnatural by several tasters. “Taste-wise, it’s really awful. Why they bother doing this is beyond me “a single editor expressed himself (who happened to rank the chocolate Frosty as1). ‘A shame to the Frosty tradition,’ says one observer. The two McFlurry varieties, like the two Frosty variants, were on opposing ends of the spectrum when it came to our taste testing results.

  • This pleasure, according to several editors, was similar to swallowing a mouthful of chilly M Ms, which is not anyone’s notion of a good time at all.
  • Absolutely not a fan, “When it comes to this treat, one editor had this to say about it: Website: Shake Shack/Facebook: Despite the fact that this custard came in the center of our taste test, several editors gave it a good review.
  • According to one editor, this dessert “tastes just like actual custard.” “Your work has pleased me,” says the speaker.
  • While three of our editors like the decadent chocolate flavor of this custard alternative, others felt that the richness was excessive for a single dish.
  • According to one editor, the Shake Shack custard “tastes like it’s high-quality and not fast-food.” “This is next-level chocolate,” she said.
  • When choosing between this and another option, it may be worthwhile to consider sharing it with a companion.
  • Wendy’s is providing this service for free.

To make this classic dish even more delicious, it doesn’t require any additional toppings or mix-ins.

In the words of one editor, “the chocolate Frosty is a classic that can’t go wrong.” “I’m reminded of chocolate malt when I smell this.

This iconic delicacy was available to everyone at our local McDonald’s since the McFlurry machine wasn’t malfunctioning.

This dessert was dubbed “ice cream nirvana” by one of the editors who tried it, and many others concurred.

His description of the Oreo McFlurry was, “When it’s frozen, it’s an ice joy.” “If you melt it down, it makes a delicious Oreo milkshake!

Win/win.” It was one of the editors who used to work at Dairy Queen that gave this McFlurry the highest positive review possible. She confessed that McDonald’s was far more liberal with the toppings than DQ was, which resulted in an Oreo-filled experience overall.

McDonald’s– Ice Cream Sundae

We enjoy McDonald’s Ice Cream Sundae because it is simple and straightforward – and that is exactly what we like about it. Vanilla soft serve and hot fudge are the only components in this dessert, and they work together well. There’s no bother, no frills — simply the best of the best. This refreshing beverage’s simplicity makes it the ideal complement to any meal, but it’s also delicious on its own. Order a tiny fry and dip it into the sundae for an extra kick — there’s nothing better, we promise you.

McDonald’s– Baked Apple Pie

McDonald’s isn’t the first place that comes to me when I’m searching for a delectable baked product, but their Baked Apple Pie is deserving of all of the praise it has received. For what feels like an eternity, it’s been on the menu at our house, and I genuinely hope it doesn’t change anytime soon. Because it’s such a comforting dish, and because it contains apples, I feel a little less terrible about ordering three pies at a time.

Starbucks– Twix Frappuccino

Although the Starbucks Twix Frappuccino is technically a part of their secret menu, it doesn’t mean the rest of the world shouldn’t be aware of it. This dessert drink is brimming with sweet delight and truly tastes just like the candy bar it’s modeled after. For a Caramel Frappuccino, simply request one with 1-2 pumps caramel syrup, 1-2 pumps hazelnut syrup, java chips, caramel sauce, mocha drizzle, and whipped cream all combined together in a blender (or buy one online). To give it that real crunch, you may even serve it with a cookie on the side.

Taco Bell– Cinnamon Twists

However, just because the Starbucks Twix Frappuccino is a part of their secret menu, does not imply that everyone should be unaware of its existence. This dessert drink is brimming with sweet delight and truly tastes just like the candy bar it’s modeled after! For a Caramel Frappuccino, simply request one with 1-2 pumps caramel syrup, 1-2 pumps hazelnut syrup, java chips, caramel sauce, mocha drizzle, and whipped cream all combined together in a blender (see recipe below). Combine it with a cookie on the side to achieve the real crunch you’re looking for.

Burger King– French Toast Sticks

If you ask us, BK’s French Toast Sticks are the star of the breakfast menu, but they’re more of a dessert than a meal in and of itself. What could be better than greasy, decadent, and dunkable French Toast Sticks that are saturated in sugar?

Popeyes– Mardi Gras Cheesecake

Popeyes sweets aren’t around for very long at all. Every now and again, the fast food business will debut a new dessert that will only be available for a limited time before being replaced by another new dessert. Among the desserts we’ve seen are little red velvet cake cups, cheesecake, and pies, but our all-time favorite is the Mardi Gras Cheesecake, which you can get here. Cheesecake, to be sure, but this one is covered with sweet confetti, which makes you want to have a party right away!

Dunkin– Sprinkle Donut

Isn’t it almost like you can taste it?

There’s nothing quite like biting into a fresh, fluffy doughnut topped with frosting and rainbow sprinkles to satiate your sweet tooth. No matter how old you are, it never fails to rekindle sentiments of youth in those who experience it. Ah, those were the days.

Chick-Fil-A– Frosted Coffee

Chick-Fil-dessert A’s selection is significantly underappreciated. The variety of flavors, from shakes to Frosted Lemonades and Coffees to the Chocolate Chunk Cookie and Icedream Cone, makes it difficult for me to select a favorite. But, being a self-proclaimed coffee addict, I’m forced to go for their Frosted Coffee instead. However, it is not as sweet as it appears to be because it is made with coffee and Icedream soft serve. Coffee taste is quite prominent, so if you’re not a strong coffee drinker, you should avoid ordering this one altogether.

Subway– Cookies

Chick-Fil-dessert A’s selection is vastly underappreciated by the general population. The variety of flavors, from shakes to Frosted Lemonades and Coffees to the Chocolate Chunk Cookie and Icedream Cone, makes it difficult for me to pick a favorite. The Frosted Coffee, however, has to be my favorite because I’m a coffee addict to the extreme! A combination of coffee and Icedream soft serve, although it’s not quite as sweet as it appears. If you’re not a strong coffee drinker, you shouldn’t order this because the coffee flavor is overpowering.

Sonic– Double Stuf’ Oreo Waffle Cone

Sonic’s Oreo Cone is a limited-edition dessert that is only available on certain days of the week. I’ll be in the drive-through line more frequently than not when that happens because this is a very fantastic ice cream cone to begin with. More than that, it is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Using Oreo cookies for the cone and vanilla ice cream to replicate the creamy, vanilla flavor of an Oreo’s filling, this dessert is sure to please. It doesn’t get much better than that, especially since there are Oreo chunks in the ice cream.

Burger King–Hershey’s Sundae Pie

This is a limited-edition dessert that can only be found at Sonic once in a while. I’ll be in the drive-through line more frequently than not when this happens because this is a very fantastic ice cream cone to begin with. More than that, though; it’s a true work of art. Using Oreo cookies for the cone and vanilla ice cream to replicate the creamy vanilla flavor of an Oreo’s filling, this dessert is sure to please. It doesn’t get much better than that, especially considering that the ice cream contains Oreo chunks.

Dairy Queen– Blizzard

When it comes to dessert, a DQ Blizzard is impossible to go wrong with. With 15 distinct flavors to choose from, you could come in once a week all summer long and have a different and delicious treat each time. Everything you could possibly want is here: Oreos with Cookie Dough, Banana Splits, and Strawberry Cheesecake. Candy bars such as the Butterfinger, Heath Bar, Snickers, and M Ms Blizzard are excellent choices for those who want good old-fashioned confections. Salted Caramel Truffle is both sweet and salty, while the Turtle Pecan Cluster is a combination of both sweet and nutty.

A W– Root Beer Float

Known as “The A W Root Beer Float,” this fizzy, creamy delicacy is a traditional All-American pleasure that brings back childhood memories with every drink or bite.

As you work your way down the mountain, sweet vanilla ice cream melts gently in a glass of ice-cold root beer. The minute this float is gone, you’ll be wishing for another, which is why we encourage you enjoy your treat at our establishment.

Sonic– Hand-Mixed Classic Shake

Photo by Hayley Mechelle used under the Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 2.0 license. When you haven’t had your first Sonic shake of the season, summer isn’t really summer. Sonic’s Classic Shakes are crafted with real ice cream and are hand-mixed with one of eight different flavors to create a delicious treat. The end product is a thick, creamy, ice-cold combination that pairs perfectly with a little (or large!) snack of french fries (or both). Additionally, Sonic offers a half-price happy hour when you may save money on snacks and other menu items.

Jack in the Box– Mini Churros

If you’ve ever tasted a churro at a carnival, Jack in the Box’s bite-sized treat will transport you down memory lane. This small snack’s crispy, crunchy, and cinnamon-filled sweetness is the perfect way to finish off a meal or satisfy a sugar need after a long day. Mini Churros are offered in two sizes: a five-piece box and a ten-piece container. It is necessary to fulfill salty and savory appetites as well after you have satisfied your sweet needs.
