I’m sure that’s not the case in other countries, but why is it that breakfast in the United States and Canada is often sweet – pancakes, waffles, sugary cereal, muffins, doughnuts, and so on? In my childhood, I assumed that I didn’t like eating breakfast simply because I don’t care for sweet foods. Then I understood that I could eat whatever the hell I wanted for breakfast and that arbitrary norms weren’t actually that important after all. I was shocked. Breakfast is become one of my favorite meals.
Usually, it’s a lovely green salad with a sardine toast on the side to start the meal.
However, it makes me wonder why so many breakfasts are sugary in the first place.
When I was fresh out of university, I worked as a medical receptionist while still attending graduate school, and it was a great experience.
My coworker glanced at me and inquired whether that was my breakfast, to which I said affirmatively.

When you’re trying to eat healthy, dessert is probably the last item on your to-do list, right? What if I told you that everything you thought you knew was wrong? Treating yourself to dessert for breakfast is the new method to stay satisfied throughout the day and avoid overindulging in snacking. It’s hard to believe, but I decided to give this dessert-first fad a go for myself and report back.
The science: How it all works
Changing your eating habits is a significant step. However, there is some evidence to suggest that having dessert for breakfast may assist to keep hunger at bay for a significant portion of the day, according to the researchers. According to a research conducted by the Endocrine Society, having a 600-calorie high-carb breakfast that includes a small dessert such as a sweet cookie or chocolate may aid to enhance weight reduction results by increasing metabolism. A study involving two groups of volunteers was conducted over an eight-month period to compare the results of those who consumed a low-carb breakfast and those who consumed a high-carb meal instead.
A sweet dessert-like ingredient was added in the meals of both groups. People who consumed a greater caloric and carbohydrate intake were more successful at losing weight and keeping it off than those who consumed a lower caloric and carb intake.
The test: Eating dessert for breakfast
Getting out of bed and into whatever clothing I can find is my typical morning ritual, followed by a quick cup of coffee before rushing out the door to go to work. When it comes to eating, it’s generally the last thing on my mind, especially when it comes to dessert. I had to do a little meal planning the night before in order to get myself ready for breakfast, which is a meal that I generally avoid. Of course, it’s possible that the placebo effect had a role: Throughout the day, I was very conscious of the fact that I’d consumed a substantial amount of sweet breakfast far too early. Having dessert for breakfast, on the other hand, had a significant influence on my overall eating patterns. I no longer felt the need to continually load up on junk food and eat anything I could get my hands on to satisfy my hunger. As an alternative, I kept to real meals and went about my business. This experiment, at least in my opinion, was a resounding success.

Why Do We Eat Dessert for Breakfast?
I’m fortunate enough to reside in the land of Dunkin’ Donuts. Because there appears to be one every 2.5 miles, the location has become synonymous with New England. Donuts for breakfast used to be one of my favorite things to eat. When I was younger, they seemed like the ideal choice – loaded with sugar and gooey goodness, to be precise. I didn’t give much thought to my health since I was too preoccupied with indulging in these delectable treats. But how are the doughnuts seen above any different from the donuts in the next case at my neighborhood baker, you might wonder?

Everything about a warm, glazed doughnut is great in this world, and there is nothing better. I don’t know many people who don’t enjoy chocolate covered strawberries, whether they are vegan or not. Katie’s blog, which encouraged all of us to indulge in healthful sweets on a more frequent basis than we had previously. Her Pumpkin Bread in a Bowl is one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes to make for dessert and eat for morning. To make this a little more nutritious than plain cereal, I prepare whole grain oats or quinoa and add it to the mix. Katie’s dish is packed with nutrients, is really flavorful, and is quite filling.
Ingredients: a third cup of canned pumpkin (or cooked pumpkin) 3/4 cup of your favorite milk 1 cup flake cereal (I prefer spelt flakes, but bran, maize, and other cereals would work as well).
At first, the cereal will have a thin consistency, but if you place it in the refrigerator (after mixing), even for 10 minutes, it will thicken dramatically!
3Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Larabars
Here’s yet another delectable dish from Katie Higgins of the Chocolate Covered Katie blog that you’re sure to enjoy! If you enjoy the popular Larabars, you can transform them into a delicious breakfast by including oats and raisins into this delectable dish that tastes just like dessert! Ingredients: 1/2 cup dried cranberries (80g) 6 tablespoons of quick oats (30g) 1/2 cup toasted walnuts (40g) 1/16 teaspoon + 1/8 teaspoon salt a quarter teaspoon of pure vanilla extract Directions: In a food processor, pulse the oats until they are finely ground, then add the remaining ingredients and pulse until completely combined.
In order to prevent your hands from becoming sticky when smushing the bars, you can separate the dough into plastic bags prior to smushing the bars.

4Banana Berry Yogurt Parfait, Vegan and Raw
Here’s a delicious parfait that can be served for breakfast or dessert. It’s fresh and packed with nutrients, giving you a healthy and invigorating lift. Ingredients: 1 young Thai coconut was used to make the meat. 1/2 cup coconut water (optional) 4 to 6 dates, soaked to aid in the blending half a lemon’s worth of juice a half of a sliced banana (fresh or frozen) 1/2 cup of berries (mixed) (fresh or frozen) For garnish, use 1/2 cup finely shredded coconut. Directions: In a blender, combine all of the ingredients (except the banana and berries) and mix until totally smooth and creamy.
Finely shredded coconut can be used as a garnish.
5Almond Butter Banana Shake,Vegan
Kathy Patalsky is one of my favorite vegan bloggers, and here she provides us with a delicious treat to start our day off right with this deliciously rich, yet nutritious breakfast smoothie recipe. This dish is quite easy to make, and the flavor combination is absolutely delicious. You won’t feel hungry for many hours after drinking this smoothie, and it is packed with B vitamins, magnesium, and potassium, which will keep you energetic throughout the rest of the morning. Vegan, with a serving size of 2Ingredients: 1 – 1 1/2 cups almond milk or soy milk, vanilla flavor *the less liquid you use, the thicker the smoothie will turn out.
Instructions: Place all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender and mix until smooth.

Is Your Breakfast Really Dessert in Disguise?
Back 04th of June, 2019 When you hear the term ‘breakfast,’ think of the meals that immediately spring to mind. Was it sugary cereals, thick pancakes, melt-in your mouth french toast, bakery-style muffins, glazed donuts, or creamy yogurt that had you in the mood for a sweet treat? If this is the case, you’re undoubtedly accustomed to a breakfast that has been Americanized. While these selections are wonderful, they are likely to have roughly the same amount of sugar as the things you are currently consuming for dessert.
According to the American Heart Association, women should have a limit of 25 grams of added sugars per day, while men should consume a maximum of 37.5 grams.
Those levels do not include the sugar you acquire from naturally occurring sources such as fruits, milk, and honey, among others.
Breakfast or Dessert?
Desserts fit for a king may be found at America’s breakfast chain restaurants, which are known for serving delectable treats. You may get a blueberry muffin with 47 grams of sugar or a chocolate glazed doughnut with sprinkles for 22 grams of sugar from a fast food establishment. Look for morning cereals that are low in sugar and produced from whole grains, such as oats, brown rice, or wheat bran, in order to get the most nutritional value.

2. Pancakes and waffles
Whether at home or at a restaurant, pancakes and waffles are popular choices for weekend morning meals. Aside from that, some of the most popular products contain a combination of added sugars including sugar, corn syrup, and honey, in addition to other components such as chocolate chips or dried fruit.
Check labels to check if the granola bars contain added sugars and are created from high-nutrient foods such as oats, almonds and seeds.
