YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY! THERE IS A PIE WITHIN A CAKE! I’d like to be extremely clear about something. This pie in a cake concept was not one that I came up with entirely on my own. Every day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., I had a scheduled appointment with Home and Family. It was around Halloween that they got the most wonderful, imaginative individual ever gathered to talk about his spectacular Blood and Guts cake, which he had designed himself. To cut a long tale short, I had to throw my kid a *Five Nights at Freddy’s* birthday party for his birthday, and it was the perfect opportunity for me to experiment with pie cakes.

Afterwards, pour the cake on top, sprinkle with the sliced butter, and simmer on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2-3 hours until the cake is done.

If I need to use my oven for something else, this is the method I like to use for baking. It’s quite simple and straightforward; it simply takes a bit longer to prepare.

Dutch Oven Dump Cake

This dish may be be prepared in the slow cooker with relative ease. You’ll basically follow the same steps as before, only you’ll put the fruit filling in the bottom of the slow cooker instead of the top. Afterwards, pour the cake on top, sprinkle with the sliced butter, and simmer on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2-3 hours, depending on your preference. If I need to use my oven for something else, this is the method I like to use. Just a few more minutes to cook, and this dish is simple and quick!

  • Peach: Use 2 cans of undrained sliced peaches in a thick syrup to make this dessert. Alternatively, 1 can sliced peaches and 1 can crushed pineapple can be used. Apple: Use two cans of apple pie filling and sprinkle with chopped nuts to make this dessert. If you like, you may make your own homemade apple pie filling. The following recipes call either 2 cans of blueberry pie filling or 4 cups fresh blueberries plus 1/2 cup sugar.

Method using a crockpot: Place the fruit in the bottom of the crockpot and set aside. Place the cake mix on top of the sliced butter and smooth it out with a spatula. Cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2-3 hours, depending on your preference. The Dutch oven approach for camping is as follows: Prepare the pan by lining it with aluminum foil and spraying it with nonstick spray. After you’ve added the fruit filling, pour the cake mix over top, followed by the sliced butter. Cook for approximately 30 minutes on hot coals, covered with a lid.

I then chop the remaining butter into little bits and distribute them equally over the top of the cake as well. I’ve discovered that this is the most effective method of ensuring that the butter is evenly distributed throughout the cake mix, resulting in a flawless cake. I don’t get any dry areas as a result of doing things this way. The cake should be baked until the top is golden brown and the filling has begun to bubble around the edges. Serving it warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top is my favorite way to enjoy it. However, a tablespoon when it’s still fresh from the fridge is also great! )
