Chicken pot pie: dinner & dessert

I like to tinker with my meals. One of my favorite things to do with food is to make it appear to be something it isn’t, and vice versa. As part of my Halloween preparations, I spent many hours transforming marinated mozzarella and olives into spooky eyeballs and meringue biscuits into frightening ghosts. Two variations on the classic chicken pot pie are presented today: a warm, savory pie loaded with warming spices, and a cold, sweet pie filled with dried fruits and pudding. What one sees is not always what one gets – can you tell which one is which?

  1. It’s April Fools’ Day!
  2. I only had to buy fresh ramekins for this foolish Sunday in order to be prepared for the festivities.
  3. You are well aware of my preference for single-serving portions; I will almost certainly serve all of my future casseroles in these customized pots just because I can.
  4. Even if you don’t agree with the flavors as an adult, I’m confident that many of you will agree that those quick pies are the essence of childhood comfort food.
  5. It was a success!
  6. It was a failure, and I’ve come to the conclusion that chicken pot pie is not intended to be healthy.
  7. Both of these characteristics were present in last night’s savory chicken pot pie, which was really delicious.
  8. We.just.couldn’t.stop.
  9. The sweet counterpart to the dinner was delicious, but, unlike the savory counterpart, it did not render us helpless in the face of its zest.
  10. If you are, I am confident that you will end up with a growing waistline.
  11. In the meanwhile, I’ll have to excuse my usage of a whole (expensive) stick of butter by pointing out the remarkable likeness between my meal and dessert that I managed to conjure up.

Happy April Fools’ Day, everyone! Please share with me your experience of being deceived or being duped today, since I enjoy surprises and pranks immensely. Chicken Pot Pie with a Savory Twist (Adapted fromThe Faux Martha) This recipe makes four individual pies measuring 5 inches in diameter.

Everyone Will Ask for a Slice of These Christmas Pies

The holiday season is often full with festive treats, whether it’s a dish of hand-decorated cookies or an extravagant Yule log cake. The only thing better than a handmade Christmas pie (and one that doesn’t involve the use of a piping bag) is when you’re looking for a more rustic treat to serve to guests. They are just as festive as your favoriteChristmas cookies, and they are available in all of your favorite seasonal flavors, like gingerbread, chocolate and peppermint among others. You’ll discover all of the classics you’ve come to know and love, as well as some unique variations on old favorites, such as a pecan pie baked with dark chocolate chips and a spiced apple pie with a dash of chile pepper.

You may make a traditional all-butter pie crust or a shortening-based pie dough, such as Ree Drummond’sperfect pie crust.

And, if you thought there were a lot of possibilities for pie crusts, just wait till you see all of the different fillings that can be used in them.

However, you’ll also find pie fillings made with peanut butter, caramel, and even a pie with a cinnamon roll topping among the options.
